Pick the capture style that fits the job
Not every site update needs continuous video. Sometimes you want the full walkthrough experience — motion, context, and snapshots. Sometimes you want something lighter: talk through the job, tap photos at the right moments, and share a link without filming a long take.
Walkflow supports both from the same product. You pick the mode before recording starts.
The two capture modes
| Video walkthrough | Photo + speech | |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | Continuous video + audio while you walk | Voice narration + manual snapshot taps |
| Orientation | Portrait or landscape (you choose before record) | Portrait snapshots (4:5) |
| Best for | Site tours, progress walks, complex layouts | Quick updates, snags, tight access, lower friction |
| Client sees | Video player + snapshots + transcript | Audio player + snapshots + transcript |
| After publish | Upload, assembly, then AI enrichment | Audio + images upload, then AI enrichment (no video assembly) |
Both modes follow the same publish → share flow. The walkthrough remains the product; AI transcript, captions, and summary attach to it after publish.
When to choose video walkthrough
Use video when motion matters:
- Pre-start tours where the client needs to see the path through the site
- Progress updates across multiple rooms or levels
- Explaining spatial relationships ("this beam affects that clearance")
- Jobs where rewatching how you moved through the space adds clarity
Video is the default for good reason — it preserves the fullest field record.
When to choose photo + speech
Use photo + speech when narration + snapshots are enough:
- Snag lists and punch items ("here is the defect, here is the fix")
- Single-area checks (switchboard, wet area, roof penetration)
- Updates where continuous video feels heavy or awkward
- Quick client approvals where you mainly need what you said plus key photos
You still get an interactive walkthrough link — not a camera roll, not a voice note lost in a chat thread.
Same share link, same positioning
Whether you use video or photo + speech:
- Your client opens one link in the browser — no app install, no portal login
- You control expiry, revoke, and access monitoring on share links
- You pay per walkthrough (PAYG), not for a seat in generic video software
For the full send-to-client workflow, see how to send a client a video walkthrough.
What comes after the walkthrough
Walkflow treats the walkthrough as the source of truth. After publish, the record gains transcript, snapshot captions, chapters, and summary progressively.
With Walkflow Pro, the same walk can draft scope of work, quotes, and invoices from your transcript and snapshots — you review and edit before anything goes to the client.
Practical decision checklist
Choose video if:
- The client needs to see movement through spaces
- The update covers multiple areas in sequence
- Spatial context is hard to explain with photos alone
Choose photo + speech if:
- You are documenting discrete items, not a tour
- You want the fastest path from site to share link
- Audio + snapshots tell the full story
When in doubt, start with video for pre-start and progress tours; use photo + speech for snags and quick approvals.
Frequently asked questions
- What is photo + speech mode?
- Photo + speech lets you narrate with your voice and tap to capture snapshots on site — without recording continuous video. After publish, your client opens the same walkthrough link with audio, transcript, and photos.
- Does photo + speech cost less?
- Walkflow uses pay-as-you-go credits based on walkthrough duration, same as video mode. Photo + speech is often shorter, which can mean fewer credits — but the main reason to choose it is fit, not price alone.
- Can my client tell the difference?
- The viewer experience is similar: audio narration, snapshots, and transcript. Video mode adds a full walkthrough player with motion through the site; photo + speech is audio-first with snapshot anchors.
