The colour, the prep, and the patch that was already there

KoriI'm a software engineer and founder of Walkflow.

Walkflow helps painters leave a job with a defect list, quote items, and a materials takeoff, instead of a camera roll of walls. You walk the rooms and say the prep, the colour, and what was already damaged. Each line links back to the photo or the moment you said it.

Walls look the same in a photo

A photo of a lounge does not say whether the client wanted two coats, whether the ceiling is in, or whether that crack was there before you started. Voice notes cover it once. They are hard to skim when you are at the trade counter for the undercoat.

The argument later is about prep. Did the patch get filled, or was it excluded? Was the feature wall a different colour?

What to say in each room

Name the room. Say what is included, what is excluded, and the condition you can see. Snapshot cracks, water stains, and the existing colour if they want it matched.

Walkflow drafts:

  • A defect list from those snapshots
  • Quote items for the labour and materials you talked through, as lines, not a finished total
  • A materials takeoff of what you named

You edit the draft. ServiceM8 can still hold the job card and the invoice. Walkflow is the walk that feeds the lines. See Walkflow vs ServiceM8.

Send one link, with no client login. The same pattern is in how to send a client a video walkthrough. For a room that is really a bathroom reno, read how to write quote items for a bathroom reno.
